Intro: This web site is to be used in conjunction with the CMU Mechanical Engineering course Statics/Stress Analysis.  One goal of these courses is to give students an introduction to planar mechanisms and the joints with which these mechanisms are formed.  Planar  mechanisms underlie many mechanical engineering devices.

We believe that a computer aided design (CAD) program can help student visualize mechanisms, both the relative motions of the different parts and how such mechanisms are assembled from different parts.

This web site is intended to give students some experience using the computer aided design program Solidworks.  Students can access this program in various computer clusters and use it to view mechanisms and ultimately design mechanisms on their own.  Specific homework assignments to read through these tutorials, and to do various exercises using Solidworks, will be announced in class.
