Paint, wallpaper, home décor, interior decoration, furniture and appliances, stoves and tinware, cabinets, carpets, and upholsterery listed in directories 1873-1901:

Justus Troell obituary, 1889 1873 Atlas of Luzerne County

Justus Troell's 1889 obituary comes to us from Joe Moore. He had one of the earliest businesses in the Freeland area.

The 1888 ad for Charles Schoener indicates that he bought out his partner G. W. Kocher's interest and was now opening under his own name. The 1888 ad for the Frank H. Albert's furniture store shows it was already at the site of what later be his son's business and later Pitman's. In the 1889 mercantile directory Albert is listed as "Furn. & Undertaker"-- a not uncommon pairing at the time, of making furniture and making coffins.

McDonald's dry goods and furniture store was at Centre and South (near what's now Sorrento's). Left to right: McDonald ads from 1889 and 1890 Freeland Tribune; 1894 ad from Carol Jones. Two photos of the actual building are on the 20th-century Furniture, decor and appliances page in the directory listings at bottom.
