[Carlow Hill College]

"In 1983 Carlow College and the Sisters of Mercy opened the doors of Carlow Hill College, a full-service baccalaureate degree-granting program designed primarily for adult African American women in Pittsburgh's Hill Community. Classes began in borrowed space at Hill House with twelve students. By the May 1998 commencement, Carlow Hill College has graduated 45 students, and enrolls on average 70 students per semester. The program and its associated child care center now occupy two newly renovated buildings, the site of a former tuberculosis sanitarium, on Bedford Avenue. Carlow Hill College was honored in 1997 when Executive Report magazine and Price Waterhouse LLP selected it to receive Pittsburgh's "Best Community Impact" award."
