[Mount Mercy College]

"Founded in 1929 as Mount Mercy College by the Sisters of Mercy, Carlow College changed its name in 1969 to reflect the roots of the Sisters in County Carlow, Ireland. The College began with a class of twenty-four women taking classes in the Motherhouse. Since 1978 Carlow has attracted increasing numbers of adults, primarily women, through convenient and affordable weekend and accelerated programs. Today, after a decade of steady growth that has seen its enrollment more than double, Carlow College offers undergraduate and graduate degrees on that same hilltop in the heart of Pittsburgh's Oakland section, and at six satellite learning centers in Beaver, Cranberry, Johnstown, Greensburg, Pittsburgh's Hill community and Upper St. Clair."
