👋 Hello, welcome to my website
Carnegie Mellon University
✍🏻 Randy Pausch Lecture: Time Management
Who is Randy Paush? He was a professor at CMU, diagnosed with cancer. At the time of the lecture, the doctors mentioned that he has "three to six months of good health left".
What was he known for? He wrote a book called "The Last Lecture"
5 things I like about his talk
Throughout his talk, he would ask the audience to participate (by raising hands, for example). He included little jokes, lifting up the mood of the audience.
His analogy of treating time and money the same way. Linking with the term "opportunity cost" commonly used in economics, it motivates me to spend my time wisely on something that can maximise my output.
He told us a story about his son not wanting to clean up his room. Through that story he expressed the idea that daunting tasks can be broken up into smaller tasks.
Try to be as systematic as possible, as this can improve productivity (second brain). An efficient way of creating a todo list is by using Covey's four-quadrant todo list. Additionally, having a file system can reduce conflict among people.
One way to get people to remember you is through thank you notes, since people rarely give thank you notes nowadays.
