this summer, the inaugural bob o’connor summer tennis classic - designed to honor such grassroots community spirit - will take place from june 23rd to july 1st.  a portion of the proceeds will benefit the highmark caring place, a center for grieving children, adolescents and their families, a charity supported by the o’connor family.

 

citiparks, the usta and various individuals and tennis clubs will host this exciting nine-day tennis extravaganza that will include:

competition: players of all ages will compete at various city locations

block party: at schenley park, sponsored by the usta

reception: a gathering to celebrate the spirit of bob o'connor and recognize event supporters

 

the tennis classic will also incorporate a "redd up" initiative as an extension of the "redd Up pittsburgh" campaign that mayor o'connor launched during the first months of his administration. this effort will include repair and maintenance at each of the community tennis sites being used for the competition: schenley park, stanton avenue, washington's landing, moore park and west park.
