Duties

The Student Body Vice-President for Finance is a member of the Student Government Executive Branch, along with the Student Body President and Student Body Vice-President. The specialty of the Student Body Vice-President for Finance is to maintain and oversee the distribution of the Student Activities Fee and to solve problems that impact the operations of student organizations and campus-wide events.

  • Serve as an ex-officio advisor for the Committee on Student Organizations

    At the start of each academic school year, the Vice-President for Finance convenes the Committee on Student Organizations (CoSO), which carries out the recognition and renewal recognition process for student organizations. For the remainder of the year, the Vice-President for Finance advises and assists the goals of committee and coordinates with the CoSO Chair in streamlining the entire recognition and funding process. CoSO is an external, joint committee of Student Senate and Graduate Student Assembly and collaborates with the Office of Student Activities.

  • Holds seat on the Joint Funding Committee

    The Vice-President for Finance convenes the Joint Funding Committee (JFC) at the start of the funding eligibility process. The Joint Funding Committee annually determines which student organizations are eligible for JFC-funding and then that allocates nearly 1 million dollars of your Student Activities Fee to student organizations! The Joint Funding Committee is a joint, external committee of Student Senate and Graduate Student Assembly .

  • Carry out audits of JFC-funded student organizations

    The Vice-President may hire a paid assistant or use volunteer assistants to help audit student organizations to make sure the Student Activities Fee is being spent responsibly and efficiently.

  • Serve as external advisor for Student Senate and Graduate Student Assembly

    The Vice-President for Finance is an ex-officio at both Student Senate and Graduate Student Assembly. The Vice-President for Finance may called upon to give opinion on financial matters within student government.

  • Provide financial assistance to the leadership of student organizatons.

    One of the goals of the Vice-President for Finance is to make sure student organizations maintain fiscal responsibility. The Vice-President for Finance will approach student organizations that have fiscal management problems and provide recommendations to the leadership on how to spend within their means, such as directing student organization to various funding sources.

  • Grant requests to roll over final balance surpluses or forgive final balance deficits for student organizations.

    The Student Body Vice-President for Finance has the power to grant surplus rollover and debt forgiveness requests for student organizations during the summer session period at which Oracle accounts close.

  • Produce a final report on the Student Activities Fee.

    At the end of each academic school year, the Student Body Vice-President for Finance should produce an official report that lists outcomes of all efforts and projects and list recommendations for future occupants.
