Project 1: Querying the MovieLens Database

Getting started:

• Read the project's description found in Project 1 Handout
• Download the project's archive. The archive contains files from the MovieLens dataset that you should load into a PostgreSQL database and query.
• Refer to Recitation 4 to understand how to:
  • Create a new database
  • Connect a PostgreSQL client to the PostgreSQL's server (aka Postgres) to access the new database
  • Create new relations under the database and import their tuples from existing files

  Submission Instructions:

• Write all you SQL queries in a PDF file named P1-{andrew_id}.pdf.
• For each question and/or sub-question, submit two text files namely Q{question#}-{sub-questions#}-{andrew_id}.txt and Q{question#}-{sub-questions#}-{andrew_id}.csv containing the query and its output result respectively.
• Zip all your files into a single archive file and submit it to the Andrew File System at /afs/qatar.cmu.edu/usr10/mhhammou/www/15415-f16/handin/p1/{your_andrew_id}/ by the due date and time. In case of any problems, you can email your archive to the course instructor and teaching assistant.
