The hawks yesterday were an omen of more sightings. Last night
I saw more deer than ever before. I always take the high road now and usually
see a family of deer, male, female and baby on one part of a hill. I never
thought of deer as hanging out in families, but they seem to here. Last
night the female ran next to my car on the road for about a hundred yards.
I am under no illusion that she is getting to know me or was reaching out
to me, I think she was just confused and running toward the baby, but it
was amazing to be moving so close next to a wild animal for so long. As
I continued on the road to my house it seemed full of deer. 15 or 16 at
a time, three mature males with huge antlers. One male walked into the
road as I stopped and waited for it to cross. The largest one stood at
the turn-off to my house.
