Robotics & AI - Prof. Gianni

How do you define AI?
Machines that simulates human intelligence.
Can you name at least three different sub-fields of AI?
Robotics
Machine Learning
Natural Language Processing
AI has been around since about 70 years so far. Why is it booming right now?
Probably because more people started to notice that technology is the future and that AI has reached a fascinating point where many human features are duplicated to a machine's system and program.
Can you name at least three application sectors where robots are being largely employed? What are the reasons?
Space Exploration: does the dangerous things that humans can’t do in the space.
Manufacturing: helps in reducing the production price while increasing the productivity and efficiency.
Military: helps as drones to keep an eye on the enemy or as armed systems designed to strike opposing forces.
Can you identify three major challenges for a wheeled autonomous robot performing a 24h surveillance task in a large facility? (e.g., something like Mall of Qatar)
The power source where the robots takes a huge amount of source to charge and work.
Being able to communicate and interact with other bots around like humans.
Being able to interact with other than bots and just avoiding bumping into people and things.
