[Andrew Carnegie]

"Andrew Carnegie, accompanied by Carnegie Institute of Technology President Arthur A. Hamerschlag, makes his way through a crowd of students and faculty members. In a letter to the mayor of Pittsburgh in November 1900, Andrew Carnegie offered to donate money to establish a technical school for both men and women. The school opened its doors in the fall of 1906. This photograph records Carnegie's fifth and final visit to the campus in October 1914."
