About Mark Ciotola

I have long been a fan of Carnegie Mellon University and the outstanding work it performs in robotics, space, computer science and other areas. It is an honor to work for CMU. Although I work at the Silicon Valley campus, I was impressed by a trip to the Pittsburgh campus, where even on a sunny Sunday afternoon, there was a giant robotic rover cruising across the quad.

I myself like to mix technology with law and social science. I like getting my hands on technology and doing something useful, and hopefuly creative, with it. I have a background in physics, space sciences and the social sciences, and I previously worked for the Monash University Facilty of Information Technology before coming to Carnegie Mellon.

When I'm not doing academic work, I spend time on my two start-ups, Course.Cafe, an open education resource publishing platform and Sustainspace, concerning growing plants in space.
