Dance Marathon is a fundraising event during which participants
will dance to a wide variety of music and take part in many fun
activities. CMU’s Dance Marathon mirrors the “Thon”
at Penn State, which is the largest student run philanthropy in
the nation. Dancers register and in partnership with a group of
people, raise money and agree to remain on their feet (dancing or
standing) for twelve hours.
Dance Marathon became Carnegie Mellon's #1 largest student-run
fundraising event in only its second year. In 2004, DM raised over
$12,000 for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Over 200
dancers attended this event from the Carnegie Mellon student body.
This year, Dance Marathon 2005 will be held on Saturday, October
15th to Sunday, October 16th in the CMU University Center.
