When I hear Keller Williams play, all I can say he reminds me of is what might happen if you gave comic book hero The Flash an extra set of arms and virtuosic guitar playing talent. He's all over the place, playing the melody, bass line and rhythm simultaneously with the help of his percussive guitar playing, vocal stylings, and a tape loop to record and play back more for additional layers. He sings well and also does an incredible "mouth fluegel", which means he can use only his lips and nothing else to make a sound that will convince even trumpet players in the audience that there's someone else on stage airing it out on a horn. One way to think of it is that he's as close as you can get to being a one man band - without sucking.
Keller takes his unique folk/rock/bluegrass/jazz wizardry on tour in front of 150 audiences a year, fingerpicking his way into bigger and bigger venues on his 10 string guitar. But what is better is that he's coming to YOUR school next week, appearing in the Morewood Underground for free on Thursday, February 1 at 8 pm. The place will be completely packed, as he now consistently draws crowds far, far more than the typical dinner crowd at the Underground. This is something you don't want to miss, it will be intimate, fun, and you'll have to pick your jaw up off the floor so the crowd won't dance on it.
