User Research
We interviewed three mother-child pairs. Children were 3~11 years old. We interviewed some of them face-to-face, others over the phone. Please see the "documents" on the right side to download the detailed documentations.
Summary
Findings from Children:
- Love taking pictures
- Capable of using fairly complicated digital camera.
- School policy restricts them from using cell phones in class
- Bring home work from school (paintings, crafts, etc) that they are supposed to leave at school. Sometimes teachers have to inform the parents to send the work back to school.
Findings from Parents:
- Want their children to be more independent
- Their children have "must have's" whenever they go out which include coats, pins, sungalsses. This starts at 15~16 months.
- Chilren love gestural interactions (like "bob it" game)
- Their children use large buttons
Findings Regarding Communication Limitations:
- Parents can't directly contact their children during school
- Children can't contact their parents during classes or meetings unless they talk to teachers or administrators first.
- Describing about what children did at school is not the same as showing the actual work
- Parents want more contact with children
