Scenarios

Emily is a pre-school student with two involved, working parents. In a typical day, Kristen wakes Emily up for school.  Kristen gets her dressed, takes her to the bus stop and kisses her goodbye.  Emily arrives at school and has many activities to do. She plays with the school lizard, enjoys snack time, and runs around on the playground.  She spends creative playtime working on a painting of her pet dog playing at the park at school.  Emily knows that her teacher does not like it when she brings artwork home.  Instead, Emily runs to her cubby and grabs her backpack.  She pulls out her cameraphone, selects Mom, holds it up to her face, and snaps a picture.

Kristen, in office hours, receives the picture on her iPhone – in an application specifically for messages from her daughter’s cameraphone.  Kristen has several hours left at work and is happy to see what her daughter has drawn. She likes seeing Emily’s progress in school and wants to encourage her daughter’s interest in art. Kristen decides to send feedback – an animated smiley face and ‘good job!!’ to let Emily know that Mom liked her work.

Emily’s device vibrates to let her know her mom has replied.  She looks at the display and giggles at the silly face.  She enjoys receiving feedback from Mom and likes knowing that she is still connected to her.  Smiling, Emily takes her drawing over to her cubbyhole, where it can stay now that she has shown it to her mom.

Later that night, Kristen and Emily head off to their Girl Scout meeting. As the girls work on a craft project, Kristen talks to the other mothers.  Sharon’s daughter is in Emily’s pre-school and Kristen remembers seeing her in a picture that Emily sent two days ago.  Kristen pulls out her iPhone and loads the cameraphone application.  She pulls up the gallery of previous photos and navigates to the photo that she wanted.  Having found the photo, she shows Sharon.  Since she already has her iPhone out, she continues to show several other photos, including her daughter’s painting from that day, to the other mothers.
