BEXHILL BOW-WOW (2006)
Performance with 4 piece band featuring dog themed songs for August Bank Holiday event at De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea

In 2004 and 2005, Central Saint Martins graduate Rachael House organized an event entitled 'Peckham Pet-Tastic', which was a fancy dress picnic for dogs. Rachael framed the event as a public artwork and surrounded Peckham Square with her cardboard sculptures of dog heads, doggy styled bunting, and other dog related artworks of myriad kinds. The whole occasion was a wonderful unpretentious fusing of artistic spectacle with everyday fun for all. Rachael invited me to become involved in these shenanigans and I suggested that the architecturally magnificent De La Warr pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea would be a grand place to present her doggie extravaganza which was thus renamed 'Bexhill Bow-Wow'. I contributed to the event by forming a band called 'Johnny and the Wags' and while the dogs and owners gathered, paraded, enjoyed Rachael's artworks and joined in the available fun and games, we played a jaunty repertoire of dog themed songs from the bandstand on the promenade.
