Midnight's home
The Address:
3420 Louisa St., Apartment 1
Pittsburgh, PA 15213
(412) 681-0275
The Story:
This is my apartment. I took over
this apartment at the beginning of May, when Becky Yount, from Rho
Sigma chapter of APhiO needed to move out. I say "I took over..."
because, officially, I'm was the only one living there.
Actually, Susan and I were both living there. Along with our
cat Midnight, who used to be Becky's cat, but was given to us as a
gift. Susan is no longer living there, since she's on tour. See her
page for more information.
The Apartment:
This is a rough layout of the apartment.
- The Living Room:
- The couch. A nice soft brown couch. Left to us by Becky.
- The love seat. A love seat to match the couch. It likes
to try to eat people. Also left to us by Becky.
- One of the futons. Standard Ikea Stromby futon.
Actually, only the frame is in the living room, the
mattress is on the other futon, in the bedroom.
- The bookcase. I constructed a bookcase out of Ivar
pieces purchased at Ikea. (Ivar is design it
yourself modular shelving.)
- The entertainment center. A nice cabinet, purchased at Ikea,
with a glass fronted case at the top, and a place for a TV in
the center. A nice 19" TV is inside.
- The halogen lamp. Also purchased at Ikea. This sits next to
entrance to the hallway.
- The white board. This white board, purchased at Ikea, isn't
visible in the layout. But it is on the wall just to the left
of the door as you enter.
- The Kitchen:
- The Kitchen Table. A beautiful hardwood table purchased at
Ikea. Our dinner table.
- The chairs. Three chairs purchased at Ikea to go with the
table. They make it easier to eat dinner.
- The microwave cart. A incredibly useful cart,
purchased at Ikea, which sits at the end of the table, right
next to Midnight's food dish. This holds my microwave, but
also has a built in spice rack, and a cabinet for our pots and
pans.
- The refridgerator. A standard fridge. This sits in the corner
of the kitchen.
- The stove. A gas stove. This is the first gas stove I've ever
used on a regular basis. I have to admit, it's useful. But I
still like electric as well. My perfect kitchen would have
both.
- The Other Kitchen Table. This is a square black
table, purchased As Is at Ikea. This is my
preparation surface. It currently holds a Toaster Oven,
a Cuisinart, and a KitchenAid mixer. This is where I do
most of my work in the kitchen.
- The counter/sink. Where we store dirty dishes, and clean them.
What did you expect?
- The cabinets. There is cabinet space below and above the
counter/sink. Not nearly enough though, which is why the
microwave cart is so useful.
- The Bedroom:
- The other futon. Another standard Ikea Stromby
futon. This one is used as a bed, obviously. Both
futon mattresses are on this frame, for extra comfort.
- The dresser at the foot of the futon. A black dresser, purchased
from (where else) Ikea.
- The dresser at the head of the futon. A nice black
dresser, with cherry stained drawers, purchased at Ikea.
The drawers are deeper than those on the other dresser,
making it more useful.
- The desks. Susan's desk is grey, and was purchased at Pharmor.
It is against the side wall in the bedroom. My desk is
a black desk purchased at Ikea. Mine has a built in
shelf at the back.
- The closet. This is a tiny closet, where Susan
used to store the few pieces of clothes that she
actually hung up. Now its mostly empty.
- The Bathroom:
- The bathtub. It's a green bathtub. Other than having a slow
drain, that I'm trying to fix, nothing unusual about it.
Except the shower curtain, with fish all over it, that Susan
hates.
- The sink. It's a green sink. One of the legs keeps falling
off, but it doesn't seem to matter.
- The toilet. I think it's green, but I can't remember.
Nothing special about it.
- The kitty litter box. This isn't green unless I don't clean
it often enough. This doesn't show up on the layout, as
it is below the sink.
- The Hall closet:
- This is where I keep most of my clothing, as it is much
larger than the Bedroom closet, and I hang up much more of my
clothing than Susan.
- The Balcony:
- The apartment has a real cool balcony, which is attached to the
Living Room. It's only about six feet off the grounds, since
the apartment is on the first floor, but I like it. I barbeque
food on the balcony fairly often.
