Bio

I am the founder of BirdBrain Technologies, a startup focused on creating new educational tools that leverage modern robotics and sensing technologies. I recently received my Ph.D from Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute for my thesis on Aligning Capabilities of Interactive Educational Tools to Learner Goals. The primary contribution of this thesis was a carefully described methodology for an integrative design process which incorporates not just the constraints of cost and technology, but also considers the needs of curricula and educators. This design process relies heavily on feedback from educators and students throughout the process, and so in the course of my thesis research I partnered with educators to co-developed curricula and educational tools, helped run classroom-situated pilot studies, and worked with evaluators to assess the effectiveness of these pilots. My degrees include an M.S. and Ph.D in Robotics, and B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, all from Carnegie Mellon.
