Sudhanshu Nahata

Name in Hindi

Welcome! I am a sixth year PhD student at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University. I am working under the guidance of Prof. Burak Ozdoganlar. Prior to joining here, I completed my undergraduate studies in 2010 at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) in Production and Industrial Engineering. My research interests include, but are not limited to: Micro/Nano-scale Metrology and Manufacturing, Precision Engineering and Additive Manufacturing.

My current research focusses on:
a. Metrology of micro-scale spindles - include measurement of error motions and obtaining dynamic characteristics of ultra-high-speed (UHS) spindles used for micro-milling, PCB drilling etc.
b. Mechanical micromachining - understanding mechanics of material removal at micro scale by machining single crystal metals and characterizing deformation mechanism using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique.
c. Additive Manufacturing - manufacturing functional parts using electron-beam based (Arcam S12) and laser based process (EOS M 290).
d. Design and development of mechanical structures/systems - to enable high-quality research.
