## Alice, the Ant Robot

Alice is a robot that is made by a group of researchers in Argentina. Alice is about 2cm x 2cm in dimension, and has two wheels with a variety of sensors. Alice is able to sense in the following ways:

• Senses walls around it so that it does not run into the walls.
• Senses light on the floor below it.
• Observational computer senses the location of each Alice on the course that the Alice robots are on.
Alice can plan its reactions in the following ways:
• Alice can determine the trajectory of motion from its current location to the closest bright spot on the floor.
• Alice can calculate motor output to move wheels such that she is able to follow the determined trajectory.
• While Alice by herself does not plan a path along the course, together, the ant robots create a path from repeated movement along the same path.
Alice, after sensing and planning, acts on her environment:
• Alice moves her motors in the manner planned to follow the planned trajectory.
• The observational computer lights up a trail following each of the Alice robots, and diminishes light that has not recently been covered by a robot.
Alice is an ant-like robot that cannot do much on her own. However, with the combination of a large number of ant robots, the ants can decide to do something meaningful by creating and following a trail. All above information was gathered from this source.
