Sheng Kai TANG ( Tony ) ..................

I am now a User Experience Engineer in the Mechanical and Industrial Design Center of ASUSTek Computer Inc.. During the office hours, I am in charge of the development of innovative user experiece of Tangible User Interface for both Netbook and Notebook. When getting off work, I dedicate in the discovery of adaptive artifacts design and implementaiton.

I used to be a PhD student in the Computational Design program in Carnegie Mellon University. I aim at developing adaptive computing techniques to achieve the goal of adaptive/intuitive Tangible User Interfaces (TUI). I have prototyped three related projects to demonstrate this potential territory which are Hemisphere, Adaptive Mouse, and Adaptive Camera. Hemisphere mainly focuses on the ergonomic study of hand gestures and aims at developing an intuitive interface for remote driving a mobile robot. Adaptive Mouse figures out that ergonomic design actually limits the adaptability of product, and seeks to create a deformable and sensible body of computer mouse to provide versatility and adaptability. Adaptive Camera further eliminates possible visual clues of product and tries to compensate the loss of clue by adaptive computing techniques.

From fall 2007 to spring 2008, I intensively take courses in the HCI field such as courses of Prof. Scott Hudson, Prof. Jodi Forlizzi, and Prof. Brad Myers. During this period of time, I also work with Pro. Ramesh Krishnamurti on adaptive algorithm. When joining in the CoDe Lab, I worked with Prof. Ellen Do on tangible interface for kids in fall 2005 and with Prof. Mark D. Gross on interactive space and toolkits for it during spring 2006 to fall 2006. Before coming to CMU, I earned my Master of Art degree and temporarily joined in the PhD program in National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. During the study in NCTU from fall 1999 to fall 2002, I worked with Prof. Yu Tung Liu (Aleppo) on computational design visualization and construction. I was also a visiting student in the Center for Design Informatics in Harvard in spring 2003. I finished my five years Bachelor of Architecture education in Feng Chia University in Taiwan in 1999.
