Baldwin RT-624

No models available.

Notes

I believe you can get a close model using parts from the Stewart AS-616 and by kitbashing. The text of my thoughts follows:
So I decided to bite the bullet and try to build the RT-624 I've been
considering. I ordered to AS-16/616 frames and 2 bodies, as well as a pair
of commonwealth trucks for an AS-616 from Walthers. All but the trucks are
now here. I plan to model 8953 (I think) which used the new-style vents
and old-style trucks. It appears so far that the cabs that come with the
AS-616 are too "angular" and not rounded enough, leading me to believe
that I will likely need to get an RS-12 shell for its cab. Also, I'm going
to need to build custom noses since they have a slight point and the
headlight is high.

Later checking reveals the Stewart RS-12 and AS-616 have the same cab. Further checking will be needed to see what can be done about this.

The headlights *may* need to be moved. The nose *does* need to be made to have a point.

Other things I've noted:
- obviously, the trucks will need to be backwards relative to the AS-616.
- I'll need to build an extension below the hoods since the hoods were higher on an RT-624 than an AS-616.
- one of the 4 vent panels at each end will be removed by cutting the shell, as will one of the 5 sets of doors between the vents and the turbo bulge (the one closest to the bulge, and obviously, the door opposite it on the shell.
- some of the louvers on the door on the opposite side of the bulge will need to be shaved off.
- I have a good bit of work to do on the walkway.

Since I really want a RT-624, and I don't want to pay brass prices, I
suppose I have no choice. I'll take pictures, and maybe some magazine will
be interested.
