My research concentrates majorly on computational cardiovascular flow mechanics with an emphasis on pre-surgical planning for patients with congenital heart defects, i.e. Fontan procedure. Our recent numerical findings highlighted the significance of venous flow pulsatility on the energy efficiency of single ventricle circulation and the feasibility of venous flow waveform optimization [4,5,8]. I have been also involved in development and evaluation of new circulatory support options [3], optimal surgical strategies [1,9], and new prosthetic devices [6,7] to aid neonatal/pediatric patients with compromised circulatory function using in vitro bench-top mock flow loops and numerical models. I am also interested in the role of flow-mediated hemodynamic loading on cardiovascular growth and remodeling during embryonic development [2,11]. I deliver short lectures on "computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling", and "structural constitutive modeling of artery wall" for grad/undergraduate biomechanics classes. (research summary poster)
