Our Design was first intended to be the lightest crane, but could only lift the weight 1 inch. In order to reach the required height of 2 inches we added a lever arm. Our lever arm was 4 feet long with a 5 ounce counter weight. With the addition of the lever arm our crane was able to lift the weight 2.25 inches. The total weight was 15 oz our base was 3 inches wide, 10 inches high, and 5 inches deep. It consisted of U channel for support in compression. Our arms were made of 3 V channels in the shape of a triangle and U channel pieces put at a 45 degree angle for torsion support. Our arms were attached by two aluminum plates cut to fit the top of the arms. This piece was designed to decrease the flex in the joint. Overall our project worked, but not as expected. it required a lot of improvisation and ended up being twice as heavy as we anticipated. but it worked.
