On 24th May 2017, the Qatar News Agency (QNA) website was hacked into using highly advanced methods. A hidden cyber-bug in the website was the cause of this attack. After the breach, fake information was being posted on the website and the QNA twitter, as part of a smear campaign against Qatar. This led to the illegal blockade against Qatar by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt on 5th June, 2017. An investigation was launched, and it was discovered that a UAE based company was responsible for the security breach.
On 27th August 2012, the RasGas office computers were infected by an unknown virus. Due to this, the RasGas website and its email servers went offline for a few days. Even after the investigation, the people responsible for this attack were not identified, but it is suspected to be the same people behind the attack on Saudi Aramco that occurred a few days before the RasGas incident.
