PLEASE READ THIS about the sig file collection

7/13/99: A company calling itself "forgoodhealth.com" has used the sig file collection as a datapoint for collecting email addresses to use for sending UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email) SPAM.

First, I'd like to apologize. I never in a zillion years thought this would happen. Perhaps that was very naive of someone who's been 'round the 'Net for years.

Second, I'd like you to know that if your signature file is on here and you no longer wish it to be, I understand. Please send me email (moose@cmu.edu) and I'll remove it as quickly as possible.

In the past few years I've tried to always ask people if I can use their .sig file before I add it, but prior to that I rarely did. While most people don't mind their .sig file being on display here, I can easily understand why someone might not want it there.

Third, I'd like you to know I'm trying both proactive and reactive methods of handling this. "forgoodhealth" and their providers have been notified that they must stop using the addresses they culled from this site or I will take them to court. And I will, if I must.

I believe in the rights of people to use the Internet for commercial purposes, but not at the expense of legal rights and personal freedoms. Copying information from my page was copyright infringement on me; using your email address is copyright infringment on you.

Lastly, I'd like to encourage you to do two things:

Thanks for your understanding and patience and again, I'm sorry this happened.
