Kava Video Sketch

Scenario (Script)

Last week it was Mom's birthday. We were all so excited to give her a Kava. I know she needed it because she uses it all the time now!

Mom reads the newspaper every morning because she likes to stay up-to-date on current events. The twins are always knocking something over at the table, but now Mom doesn't have to worry about the paper getting wet because she can just wash off her Kava in the sink. When mom is cooking dinner, she flips her Kava and stands it up on the counter so she can read recipes or finish reading the paper from the morning. Mom would never read a real book with dirty hands, but with her Kava, she doesn't worry so much. Mom says the Kava can get wet because it doesn't have lots of buttons and holes like all of the other book readers in the store.
Mom especially likes her Kava because she can turn pages just like she does with regular books. To turn a page, you just pretend like you're pushing a page across the screen with your fingers, and the Kava knows it's time to go to the next page. It even looks like the page is turning! Luckily, if you miss something, it lets you turn the pages back, too. And, if you go faster, it turns a bunch of pages like in a real book. Mom says this feature is extra-helpful when she has her Kava up on the counter because she doesn't have to worry about looking for a button when she's standing so far away.

I'm surprised Mom has time to read at all. She gets distracted all the time by the twins because they're always getting into fights. Mom used to get frustrated because she didn't remember where she left off in her book when she had to go break up a fight. Mom's Kava is smart, and it remembers what page she was on when she opens it back up. Mom likes to use bookmarks, too, so she can easily find her spot. She just circles the place she was reading with her finger and then picks a color for the bookmark so she'll remember which one it was when she comes back later.

After she puts the twins to bed, Mom gets out her Kava and rents a book from the library. She says her reading time is a chance to relax and enjoy the quiet. Mom reads in bed, so she likes being able to put the Kava in any position that's comfortable. Sometimes she reads it like a real book and lays it on her lap, but other times she just flips the second screen around so the Kava is smaller and easier to hold. Mom always used to complain about hurting her wrist when she read, but now she doesn't have to hold books open- the Kava stays put wherever she wants it.

Today, I asked Mom when I can get my own Kava. She said I'll probably have to wait a while, because it's just for... moms :)
