Electric Purple Studios
Since the beginning of 2011, I've been making games with my friends Tim Vaughan and Matt Glisson under the name of Electric Purple Studios.Game Creation Society
I've been an active member of the Game Creation Society since 2007, and worked on numerous games in many different capacities including team leader, programmer, and 3d artist.
Battery AssaultGame Creation Society Fall 2010Race head-to-head with an opponent to collect 5 batteries the quickest. But watch out--with lasers and missiles flying about, only the skilled will triumph in this futuristic coliseum.Battery Assault began as a simple demo I worked on to learn the Unity Game Engine, but through hard work and dedication the project became a full-fledged game. I had a great time working on Battery Assault as the team's leader. As with many of the multi-talented members of our team, I also got to act as an artist, game designer, and programmer. RobokillerGame Creation Society Fall 2008Melt, scorch, or freeze the enemy robots to escape the factory in this retro 3D first-person shooter. As the lead artist for this game, I wanted to create an atmosphere of futurism while still maintaining the game's retro feel. In keeping with this vision, I chose green scanline terminals and holograms, and shiny stainless-steel robots and doors to add that science-fiction pizzazz to the otherwise grungy and run down factory. TreeSuitGame Creation Society Spring 2008As a sentient tree wearing a stylish suit, only you can convince the logging company executives to reform their practices... once you sneak past the guards, that is. How do you do it? Through the power of dance!I contributed code, 3D models, textures, and music to this project. It was a massive undertaking. Visit TreeSuit's GCS Page to download TreeSuit. |

SmashFall 2009Smash was my entry for a competition to create a new variant of the familiar game Breakout. In my take on the game, I chose to remove the paddle entirely, focusing on the joys of breaking bricks rather than the frustrations of catching a falling ball. I created Smash in one week using Processing.Click here to play Smash online (requires Java), |

“Giant Steps Are What You Take”Carnegie Mellon's Red Rover is going to the moon! This spring, I joined a team of students to create this animation detailing the planned mission as a part of Red Whittaker's class, Advanced Mobile Robot Development. |

“Ice Cream”A proof of concept piece in which I demonstrate that ice cream can be simulated as cloth*. I'll be reusing this technique in my final animation project, a 2 minute short featuring a couple old men and an ice cream cone.*Just don't try serving cloth ice cream at your next party. It looks fine, but I bet it tastes terrible. |

“Nervous”The second assignment for Animation Art and Technology was to model, rig and animate a character. Facial rigging hasn't been covered yet, but I feel the moody lighting and anxious movements are sufficient to convey the unease I wanted for this character.Animated in Maya. |

“Foreshadowing”This video was a preliminary assignment for my Animation Art and Technology class. I am particularly pleased with the way the shadows turned out. I spent a lot of time tweaking the shadow to make the anvil look like it was falling from far above.Animated in Maya and rendered with MentalRay. |
