Security Incidents in Qatar

Qatar News Agency (QNA) Security Breach

Recently, there was a breach in security at the Qatar News Agency (QNA) website and its Twitter feed. It was reported that the attackers found a loophole in the network's system and installed malicious programs to publish false stories. The Qatari Government and the QNA immediately felt the impact, as false statements were attributed to His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. This caused diplomatic tensions and criticism from Saudi Arabia's Okaz newspaper. Furthermore, the Al Jazeera network's website was blocked in the United Arab Emirates. Investigations by Al Jazeera revealed that the IP address was tracked to the UAE.

QNB Security Breach

On April 26th, 2016, QNB experienced a security breach resulting in the compromise of approximately 1.4GB of user data, including credit card and account information. However, QNB has stated that there has been no financial impact on their clients or the bank. They have also reassured the public that an investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the breach.
