Well, since I've got so many emails asking about my dragons, I figured it was time to put together a FAQ because... let's face it, while I love talking about my dragons, it gets kind of annoying to answer the same questions over and over. So if you want to know more about my dragons, you should read the rest of this page, yo.
Why clay dragons?
Well, I've always liked dragons. I've been drawing them for oh, I think it's been
about eight years now. My mom used to own a toy store, so I had many opportunities
to fool around with the various things that she sold. One day she brought home some
Sculpey III clay for me, and I made a few Redwall characters out of it. I still
have them to this day... Yeah, they're pretty crude. <_<;
Anyway, I needed something for the 9th grade Yankee gift swap, and I didn't have anything on hand, so I thought I'd make a cute little dragon out of clay. I made it and I thought it was awesome, so I made a copy of it for myself. Hideous, ain't it? I thought it was totally great at the time, but my classmates clearly didn't agree. I went home from that gift swap in tears. >_<
Somehow, I didn't give up. Instead, I decided to practice and get better. Various dragons of dubious quality still clutter up my house, but as the photos show, I've definitely gotten better at it with time. I've gotten my dragon-making style down after many years of practice, and I'm happy with what I'm able to produce. I make dragons because I like it. Even more than that, I love how happy I can make others by sharing my work. It's a truly satisfying feeling.
How do you make your dragons?
I make my dragons out of Premo sculpting compound. It's this colored clay that
hardens when baked in the oven, and it comes in all sorts of brilliant colors.
I add all sorts of non-meltable accessories to my dragons before baking them
(rocks good, rhinestones bad), and then sign and glaze the final results for a
professional look.
How big are your dragons?
My dragons stand at an average height of 2 inches tall.
Can I buy one of the dragons on this page?
Most of the dragons featured here have either been sold, or I'm too fond of to part with. However, the ones that are still available have a purple border around the thumbnail image. Let me know if you're interested.
Can I commission you to make me a dragon?
Sure thing! I'm too busy/lazy to go about making dragons on my own time, but I'll do anything for money. ^o^ Drop me a line, and we'll talk. I must note that I will be working in Japan from July-December of 2006, so I will probably be unable to make anything during that time.
How can I contact you?
The best way to get ahold of me is to
email me.
