My focus is on the 19th Century, particularly the fin de siècle. I am especially interested in how the Victorian period intersects with aesthetics, science and anthropology.

Currently teaching the undergraduate literature course “Victorian Detectives.” I also teach “Interpretation and Argument” to Carnegie Mellon undergraduate students where I used Argument Mapping and They Say,I Say to encourage thinking critically about texts and hone writing competence.
2010 Intern, Posner Center Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Designed and coordinated an eight-display case exhibit showcasing H.M. Stanley’s In Darkest Africa (1890) through the Posner Center’s rare and historic book collection. Learned about book conservation and rare book exhibition practices.

Worked with Professor Charles Rosenblum in the Art History department of Carnegie Mellon to teach “Modern Visual Culture” and “Critical Histories in Art” to undergraduate students.

Taught “English Composition” 101, 102, and Honors 102 to University of Cincinnati undergraduate students. Exhibited a range of pedagogical techniques to foster writing proficiency and critical thinking. Taught a service learning curriculum in conjunction with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful.

Taught technical and professional skills to high school aged Apprentices on the “MuralWorks” project in the Central Business District in Over the Rhine.
2007 Instructor, Chatfield College Cincinnati, Ohio
Taught the studio course “Beginning Painting” to undergraduate students. Designed syllabus and activities to improve students’ understanding of value, hue, and technique, while honing their proficiency in the medium of acrylic paint.

Facilitated the “Artist’s Night” program at the Walnut Hills branch library. Designed an all-ages art project, as well as a short speech related to the theme of the current exhibition at Manifest Gallery.

Assisted Manifest Gallery board member Elizabeth Kaufman with a gallery tour and painting project for the mentally handicapped. Living Arrangements for the Developmentally Disabled (LADD) sponsored the event for their E.D.U.C.A.T.E. series.

Began a biannual English Graduate Organization Literature Colloquium to showcase graduate critical scholarship. Assembled graduate presenters and faculty chairs into panels for each colloquium. Booked the venue, disseminated publicity, arranged funding, and coordinated helpers—especially to ensure refreshments and seating.

Coordinated a joint Colloquium with the English Graduate Organization and the Undergraduate English Society. While continuing to highlight student critical scholarship, this union encouraged academic interaction between undergraduate and graduate students.
