Historic Pittsburgh is a digital collection that provides an opportunity to explore and research the history of Pittsburgh and the surrounding Western Pennsylvania area on the Internet. It is a joint project of the University of Pittsburgh and the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania. When complete, it will consist of a full-text collection of more than 400 items, over 500 archival finding aids, approximately 600 land ownership maps, and access to the Historical Society's catalog. It is a joint project of the University of Pittsburgh and the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania. As a part of the partnership with the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, the Digital Research Library is providing a Web accessible, fully searchable version of the catalog of the Library and Archives of the Historical Society.

[Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall] Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, 4141 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh PA 15213-3547, the second largest military museum in the state, aside from Gettysburg, containing 10-12,000 artifacts, complete records for 14-15 of the 30 GAR posts in the county, and dozens of manuscript collections. The genealogical section of the library contains the personal records of over 50,000 Western Pennsylvania Civil War soldiers. The library also maintains succinct records of thousands of Grand Army of the Republic members and the base records of over 1,000,000 Civil War soldiers from the mid-Atlantic states. The library has a Civil War soldiers 1890 Census; the 1859-1865 Civil War listing of those who entered the Regular U.S. Army; and a listing of Pennsylvania Jewish soldiers who served in the Civil War.

The Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society offers a number of publications on Allegheny County, City of Pittsburgh, and Western Pennsylvania, including ALLEGHENY COUNTY IN THE WAR FOR THE SUPRESION OF THE REBELLION 1861-1865 (1924), containing alphabetical list of the 25,930 veterans who served from Allegheny County, PA, with rank, company, regiment, class of service.
