Oldest established camp in the United States, org. Nov. 12, 1888.

Meetings are held the 2nd Friday of each month at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial hall in Oakland at 7:30 pm.


Who are we? We are the descendants of Soldiers, Sailors or Marines who served in the Army, Navy of the United States of America during the rebellion of 1861 to 1865, and have formed this patriotic and fraternal order for the purpose and object to commerate our fathers' deeds, to render loyal service to our country, and to promote unqualified American citizenship with respect for the honor to the flag.

Davis Star Camp organized on November 12, 1888 to be known to all as the "Augustus Plummer Davis Star Camp" incorporated on the 27 day of Dec. 1881 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Ordered and decreed by Judge F. W. Collier Dec. 28, 1881 and recorded in the Recorders Office of Allegheny County on January 19, 1882.

Why are we? To carry on the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic and the men who saved the Union, from 1881 to 1865; to making available research of documents and records pertaining to the Grand Army of the Republic and its members; to cooperate in giving honor to all that served in any war; to teach patriotism and the duties of citizenship and the true history of our country.

Interested in joining? Eligibility: All male descendants, whether through lilneal or collateral lines, not less than fourteen years of age, who are blood relatives of Soldiers, Sailors, Marines or Members of the Revenue Cutter Service who were regularly mustered and served honorably in, and were honorably discharged from the Army, Navy, Marines, or Cutter Service of the United States of America.

Yearly Activities

  1. Speakers at monthly meetings, as per Camp Historian

  2. Locating and honoring any and all Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War

  3. Attending joint functions with other camps in the Pgh. area

  4. Bi-monthly newsletter with articles on Civil War news and information about States and National Camps

  5. Annual dinner held each May attended by members, their families and the Officers of Camps in the Pittsburgh area.

  6. Annual trip to Gettysburg, Pa. for the reenactment of the Gettysburg Address. This function is attended by 4,000 to 5,000 troops of the Union and Confederate Army reenactors.
