My research explores the relationship between law, education, and economic development in the historical United States: specifically, the use of the corporate form as a means of educating children in the early nineteenth century, the effect of compulsory attendance laws at the turn of the twentieth century, and the role law played in the creation of unequal education after the Civil War. My training in economics comes from the pursuit of a joint degree in Economics and Public Policy between the Tepper School of Business and the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon, and my training in law is at the Yale Law School.
