This picture was taken in 1996. In our hands, we hold the regional first place trophy,
and big gift certificates to Barnes&Noble
Bookstore. This was our second year competing in the Science Bowl,
and our second year winning the regional competition and going to Nationals
in Washington D.C., courtesy of the U.S. Department of Energy. The first year (my junior year) I organized the team to compete for fun, and were surprised to win; we then placed 16th at the National competition. The next year, we played to win at regionals, and practiced hard for nationals. We placed 4th overall. On the far left is Jack Lundt, our team coach. He found all kinds of good example questions for us to practice with.
In the picture from the left are Kristin Bjornsen, Nathan Ickes, me, Klaus Georg, and Steve DiVerdi. Steve is now a computer scientist working on his Ph.D., Klaus is an opera singer after getting a degree in math and opera, I'm a robograd, Nathan is working on his Ph.D. in electrical engineering, and Kristin is becoming a journalist after getting an undergraduate degree in microbiology.
