Welcome friends to my fairly
new web page! In am taking two classes this summer term. One of
the two classes is Information Technology and Social Accountability,
course number 90-725. One aspect of the course involves setting
up a web page. Ta-da! It has been an all new experience for me,
but I have learned a good deal doing it! Should you have any suggestions
or things you would like to see, please e-mail me at jf4i@andrew.cmu.edu
and I will see what I can do.
The other class I am taking this summer is Leadership: Innovation
and change which is taught by an instructor who owns her own consulting
business and teachers and helps companies to more effectively
involve their employees to be empowered and work as teams for
greater productivity and job enjoyment.
RECENT EVENTS have been crazy. My daughter's wedding is in a scant two months, and the details are fast becoming overwhelming for all parties involved! You can read more about this further down. My husband and son just returned from a long trip out to the south west and back. My son was very excited to have driven through Roswell, New Mexico, on what just happened to be the first day of the week long annual festival to celebrate the anniversary (50th this year) of the "alleged" alien crash that took place there. Check out these sites to learn more about the Roswell incident, as well as other UFO "sights."

In the Fall I plan to take my last two classes and hopefully graduate
in December, 1997 with a MPM in Health Services Administration.
I have an undergraduate degree from Point Park College with
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Services Administration.
Prior to that, I graduated from a diploma program in Nursing from
Columbia Hospital in Wilkinsburg a long, long time ago.
As part of my early nurses' training, I became and still am good
friends with Barbara Hafer. This Fall, Barb continued her career
in politics by assuming the position of Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
She is married to the headmaster at the Kiski School,
in Saltsburg, PA, where my son attended school the last three
years of high school.
Back to me! I am now a legal nurse consultant, and am part owner
of JLS Consultants, Inc., a firm that evaluates medical records
and claims and provides expect witness testimony for law firms.
But, my real job is a Registered Nurse with special certification
in College Health from The American Nurses Association.
I have worked at CMU for the
past nine years, and surprisingly, am still sane (I think).
I have been married to Wayne for 33 years. We met while he was
in a doctoral program in mechanical engineering at CMU. He has
an undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and a masters
degree from Pitt. For the past 35 years he has worked for Westinghouse
Electric Corporation at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in
West Mifflin. Most of his work involves nuclear energy to power
navel submarines and aircraft carriers. His interests are in classical
and theater music besides visiting America's national parks. He
is originally from Sioux City, Iowa.
I am a mother with four children, ages 29, 27, 25, and 16. My
oldest three children were adopted from The Children's Home of
Pittsburgh. Sally Anne, the oldest is a paralegal for CNA
in Pittsburgh, PA. She is getting married in September and also
starting law school at Duquesne University. Her future husband,
Brian Kane, is a lawyer doing trial work in product liability
for a major law firm in Pittsburgh. Susan is next and lives in
Sterling, Virginia where she is a travel reservationist for American Express
doing corporate travel. My only son, Peter is currently doing
research at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic,
part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
His research at the Cognitive Developmental Neuroimaging Laboratory involves
looking at the functional brain development of children. The two
focuses of the lab include inhibitory mechanisms of attention
and long term outcomes of perinatal complications. While he tells
me that he enjoys his job, he is very happy that this past week
was his last full time work week. He is starting a graduate program
in Clinical Psychology with a research emphasis in sleep and sleep
disorders at the University of Arizona.
This will take approximately seven years. My youngest child is
Anna. She is sixteen years old and learning to drive! Her biggest
claim to fame at the present time seems to be her height--approximately
6 ft 3+ inches. Look below to see her most recent school picture.
