The day after the Open House was a day to kick back and enjoy life by the ocean. It was Christine LaSala 's (an artist in residence) birthday and Columbus Day all in one. Except in California they don't have Columbus Day they have Indigenous Culture Day, since Columbus is considered the first in a long line of conquerors who brought syphilis and other bad things to the new world. There is also a new artist here from Prague named Petr, pronounced like it's spelled. He is a puppeteer. He is here with his wife and one year old daughter so they bagged out of the party. Christina decided she would like a birthday party that entailed a walk to the ocean and then playing pool on the table in the basement of my house. It sounded like a good idea to every one so we all organized after dinner and began the walk to the beach. Of course any venture out at night always includes deer sightings. As we got to the bottom of the hill we saw a young deer in silhouette at the top of the hill walking in the porch light across of the front of the art center's main building.
