Carnegie Mellon University Model United Nations Conference (CMUMUNC)
The International Relations Organization (IRO) is hosting its high school Model United Nations Conference at Carnegie Mellon University’s Pittsburgh campus on Friday, March 8, 2013 to Sunday, March 10, 2013. We encourage participants to research, learn, adapt, negotiate, and debate in a professional manner, similar to the real United Nations. We are excited to host a conference for those truly interested in learning about international crises and have many engaging topics planned.
We are hosting five competitive committees focusing on contemporary issues the committees within United Nations. CMUMUNC is organized in the structure of the General Assembly of the United Nations : First Committee DISEC (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee), Second Committee ECOFIN (Economic and Financial Committee), Third Committee SOCHUM (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee), Fourth Committee SPECPOL (Special Political and Decolonization Committee), and the Security Council.
This year’s conference will be opened to all high schools that are able to provide their own transportation to and from their respective districts. Please note that lodging (for school not local to the Pittsburgh area) must be reserved by the individual school prior to their attendance. Carnegie Mellon University will not reserve hotel rooms for schools, but our Pittsburgh area hotel list can provide suggestions as to which would be the best for your convenience.
Regular registration is currently in process. All registrations are accepted on rolling basis, so please register as soon as possible. We ask the number of interested delegates as part of delegation (school) registration. We guarantee your attendance if we confirm delegate number by January 31, 2013. Our committees are medium-sized (25 – 35 delegates), and the number of delegates is limited. We accept registration past this date if space is available. Registration forms are found on the resources page.
For coordination and support for the conference, there is a Delegation Fee (per school) of $65, due by January 31, 2013. We prefer a minimum of 6 delegates per delegation, but all delegation sizes are welcome. The Delegate Fee (per student) is $40, due February 22, 2013. After this date, late fee of $10 to both Delegation Fee and Delegate Fee applies. Please contact us at iro@andrew.cmu.edu for registration and questions.
