Bike Design
|
The images below are sketches of a bike that I am designing. This bike is my bid to achieve one of the holy grails of bike design, a bike with "hubless" wheels. That is, wheels which have no hub and are connected to the frame in a way other than the center of the wheel. This requires designing an extremely rigid wheel and also designing an innovative way to transfer torque to the wheel. Many designs and 3D models circulate on the internet, but none have been built. My design calls for the wheel to ride on a track, much like a circular monorail. I have loved bikes and bike design for much of my cognisant life. And I wonder sometimes why, by and large, bikes still look the same today as they did 50 years ago. Perhaps its time to reinvent the wheel? My goal is to continue to refine this design through sketches, and then eventually use a 3D modelling tool such as Maya to render a 3D model. I would then want to produce an animation demonstrating how the bike operates. I would then seek to build the prototype, with the assistance of an experienced bike designer. |
