After design work was complete in the Spring of 2009 for the Hamnet Homestead Sustainable Living Center, the refinement of construction drawings and pre-fabrication of the Community Pavilion took place in the summer of 2009. The initial construction was unable to take place on-site, which made it necessary to design the structure in such a way that it could be easily disassembled and rebuilt at a time when it would not interfere with the summer growing season of GardenDreams. Temporary foundations were poured to allow for the full structure to stand in its off-site location at Construction Junction. Fifteen students engaged in translating the design from the spring into the Community Pavilion that will be permanently installed at the Hamnet Homestead Sustainable Living Center at a later date. A full set of construction documents as well as necessary variance letters were developed by the student team and accepted by the Borough of Wilkinsburg.
*Recipient of ACSA 2010 Collaborative Practice Award.
