Computer Security

Computer security means protecting your computer from information theft on the system. Security helps to ensure that information is stored safely in the computer without anyone being able to access it without authorization.

We all are living in the age of technology where millions of files are being compromised by hackers. Thus computers need to be protected and secured. The rise in hacks have led to the rise in Cyber Security branches in many different businesses. These branches focus on protecting their data on computers and networks. Computer security can have different vulnerabilities that can make a computer easily hackable. To secure a computer one must understand the threats which can be classified into one of the many categories which include Backdoors, Denial-of-service attack, direct-access attacks, eavesdropping, spoofing, tampering, phishing, Trojans, etc.

Backdoors is an algorithm that is bypasses security and keeps the connection which staying unknown. Denial-of-service attacks as the name suggest is an attack which is designed to prevent or lock a user from accessing his computer or blocking all the computer linked to a large private network. Direct-access attack is an attack where a hacker is able to gain access to a computer and be able to directly download data from it. They will be able to compromise security by modifying that software and adding key loggers, worms, etc. Eavesdropping is listening to a private conversation between hosts and network. Phishing is an attempt to obtain sensitive information such as username, passwords, credit card information, confidential government papers, etc. Trojans are quiet common threat to private users. Hackers can infect their targeted computers with Trojan virus by decisively making their target download a software which they thought was legitimate but was in fact malicious. Once the software is in the computer then the hacker can do anything from recording your passwords by logging keystrokes to taking over your webcam to watch and record your every move.

The user should be well aware of the applications he is downloading or what kind of websites he is visiting as these things might contain viruses that might not be good for the person. While doing this hackers might gain information that they might use to exploit the person’s character and can act in any unethical way.

In conclusion, it is important for people to know about these attacks/viruses and understand how to handle the situation if any threat was to be found in their computer.
