Emil de Quiros' Professional Page
I am Emil de Quiros from Manila, Philippines. Prior to being accepted and attending graduate school (MS Public Policy and Management) at the Heinz School, Carnegie Mellon University, I was already working for 7 years in Manila. Since I graduated from college in our home country, I’ve been involved in various areas and fields in development work. I started out as volunteer under the Jesuit Volunteers Philippines program for one year then soon after, I worked for the national government (National Anti-Poverty Commission) for 5 years because I believe that you have to “infiltrate the system” to change it. I was also fortunate to have been invited to work as an assistant of a local consultant of the World Bank Office Manila on decentralization and local government concerns. I am passionate about development issues, especially poverty and fighting for the marginalized and vulnerable. However, I am equally passionate about music – not just listening to but in the active creation and playing of such. Before coming to Pittsburgh, I was the drummer of three bands and we actually released a compilation album just this June and were regularly playing in various bars around the metropolis.
After completing a Masters degree at the Heinz, I plan to go back to the Philippines and again be of service to the public through the government – hopefully, still in the anti-poverty business. Afterwards, I plan to pursue a possible long-term career with multilateral organizations (i.e. World Bank, United Nations, Asian Development Bank, etc.) or serve as a consultant on poverty and international development while I also pursue my passion for music which I unfortunately have to push aside for a while.
