Hunt Institute for Botanical DocumentationAs Librarian at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation at Carnegie Mellon University, I've been fortunate to be able to work with a specialized rare book/research collection focusing on botany and the history of the plant sciences. This has given me a strong appreciation for publications as products of and catalysts in the history of ideas and communication as well as in the development of the plant sciences. It has also given me a strong interest in the preservation of library and archival materials. |
Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries (CBHL)The Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries is an organization formed, according to the bylaws, "to initiate and improve communication between persons and institutions concerned with the development, maintenance and use of libraries of botanical and horticultural literature." CBHL's Preservation and Access Committee (PAC) was formed in
1996 to discuss the need for preservation
projects for library and archive collections in botany and
horticulture. The committee
is conducting a survey of non-book collections in CBHL member libraries
and databasing the results for CBHL member access. |
Linnaeus Link: Access to Linnaean Material on the WebLinnaeus Link is an international, collaborative project designed to make Linnaean collections and information more accessible. An international group of librarians and scholars is laying the groundwork for creation of a Web-based resource. The first phase of the project will produce a union catalogue that will be based at The Natural History Museum in London. A survey of Linnaean collections is also being conducted, and results will be posted on the Linnaeus Link website. We'll be hosting the annual Linnaeus Link partners meeting at Hunt Institute in November 2009. |
