We drove a few 10s of km north and the eastward to the town of Al Khor.  We had several places we wished to stop at so we drove around the city twice, and then chose our stopping places.  Amidst all the sand and dust and heat (>105°F), there was a spectacular beach resort on the Arabian Gulf that we just had to stop at.  We spent quite a bit of time there as the stark contrast of the deep blue waters of both the pool and the beachfront was hard to gaze away from.  There’s a photo page HERE of the place.  We checked, it only costs ca. $500/night).  A beautiful spot though!
