The map below shows APRS coverage in the vicinity of the course for the UPMC City of Pittsburgh Marathon.
This map shows the results of a coverage test conducted on the evening of Wednesday, 29-Apr-1999 to determine the level of APRS coverage available for the marathon. Tests were made using a 5w transmitter and 5/8-wave mag-mount antenna, in approximately the same configuration as will be used during the actual event.
For this test, position reports were sent at a rate of one every 59 seconds using a path of "GPA via RELAY,WIDE,TRACE". Black dots indicate those reports heard directly by the W3VC internet gateway at Carnegie Mellon Universtiy; blue dots are those position reports heard through the W3EXW digipeater, located on the north side of Pittsburgh at the transmitter site of WPXI-TV 11. Red dots indicate packets which were heard through various relay stations, but were not heard directly by the W3EXW digipeater.
