Artist Statement...
I think part of being an artist is to have a sense of humor. Allowing that humor to channel into my work, gives it a uniqueness that grasps my audience. I enjoy creating situations of ridicule and fantastical imagery which function as a method of thought provoking nonsense. I want to have meaning in my work, but I don’t want to tell the audience what my intentions are. My audience can take in what they want from my work, but I draw them in intentionally with content, color and sexuality. Once I’ve made that connection with the audience, they allow themselves to reflect the different meanings of my pieces. My intention is that they will all get something different and interesting from what they see. In doing so, they each have a version of their interpretation, not just mine or anyone else’s.
My process is one based on technique and graphic creations. I strive to create pieces that are seemingly good to look at, accurate in anatomy and pleasing in color. I want to make my pieces look commercial, rather than abstract or modern in the art world’s sense. I have decided to continue working primarily in Photoshop and other Adobe products for its ease and vast possibilities. I am constantly learning more techniques and ways of using this program for my needs and improving my work.
Bio
I grew up in New Jersey and in a traditional Asian family. I struggled with my decision to enter art school, due to the prospect of future independence. I am most afraid of the term “starving artist” and what my mother thinks about my lifestyle. However, I think I made the right decision, since I am not very good at anything else.
I am currently living in Pittsburgh with plans of moving to New York in hopes of working for a studio as a concept artist.
The artists I admire are Miyazaki and Mike Butkus.
