Dennis McBride is a graduate of Wauwatosa East High School, UW-Milwaukee (bachelor's degree in journalism, Phi Beta Kappa), Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public & International Affairs (master's degree in public administration), and New York University's School of Law (law degree).

An attorney for more than 25 years in government and private practice in Milwaukee and Boston, Dennis also worked as Public Relations Manager for Rexnord Inc. for two years.

Dennis has been a leader in Wauwatosa for many years. A partial list of his leadership roles includes service as Chairman of the City of Wauwatosa Civil Service Commission (1995-98 and 2004-06); co-founder and first President of the Pasadena Neighborhood Association in Wauwatosa; Co-Chairman of the Wauwatosa High School Memorial Project (2003-05); co-founder and committee member for the Tosa East "Wall of Inspiration" (2002-present); co-founder and committee member of the Jefferson School \u201cMonticello Project\u201d (2003-present); and Coordinator of the Hedge School at Milwaukee's Irish Fest (2006-present).

Some of his other activities include the following memberships: the City of Wauwatosa Civil Service Commission (1992-present); the State of Wisconsin Retirement Board (2005-present); board of directors of Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool, Inc. (2006-present); Wauwatosa Historical Society's Little Red Store Preservation Committee (2005-present); and the Wauwatosa School District's Long-Range Planning Committee (2006-07).

Dennis also was co-author of the Housing Task Force report for the Goals for Greater Milwaukee 2000 project (1983) and a member of the Advisory Committee on Lakefront Freeway Stub End Design for the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (1982-83). He received the Community Service Award in 1996 from the Federal Executives Association of Milwaukee.

Dennis is a member of the Charles Jacobus Park Neighborhood Association, St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Wauwatosa Historical Society.

A member of Tosa East's 1972 state championship track team, Dennis twice won the Mayfair Marathon (1974 and 1975), set 12 UW-Milwaukee records in track, and was elected to the UW-Milwaukee Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.
