The Kotla is now the home venue for the Delhi Daredevils side in the Indian Premier League, having hosted all its games in the capital during the 2008 edition of the tournament. The Daredevils will play all its games at the Kotla in the 2010 edition of the Indian Premier League as well.
Located right in the heart of the financial capital of India – Mumbai, and a stone’s throw away from the famous Marine Drive, is the Brabourne Stadium. It is owned by the prestigious Cricket Club of India, which is one of the oldest clubs in the country and has a lot of history attached to it.
Eden Gardens in Kolkata is easily the biggest cricket ground in the country and one of the biggest grounds in the world. Earlier known to have a capacity of more than a hundred thousand, it can now accommodate 90,000 owing to renovations.
One of the most talked about sporting facilities in India is situated right outside the metropolis of Mumbai, the DY Patil Stadium. The ground has been voted as the sixth best cricket arena in the world by the Architects' Journal of Britain in 2009. Amongst the grounds the journal considered, the legendary Lord's in London won the top honour while the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore was adjudged second-best.
The awe-inspiring touch of history is unmistakable the moment you step into the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai through the V Pattabhiraman Gate. This venue has been the spiritual home of South Indian cricket since 1916 when Presidency matches were staged. Since then the stadium has only grown in stature.
M Chinnaswamy stadium may not have the aura of the Lord’s or the imposing nature of Eden Gardens, but ever since it was given Test status in 1974-75, this prominent landmark in Bengaluru has witnessed some of the finest moments in the history of cricket.
Mohali is also the home ground of the Kings XI Punjab team in the Indian Premier League and has hosted seven IPL games so far. It will host some of the games for the side in the 2010 version of the tournament as well, along with the Dharmasala in Himachal Pradesh.
The Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad can hold a crowd of almost 50,000 and is one of the bigger grounds in the country. Named after India's first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the stadium was built within a span of nine months on a 50-acre stretch of land donated by the government. It is also called the Motera ground because it is located in that area of the city, and has seen many a record being broken.
