This is a leg rest I made for Mary for her birthday in 2005. It was for the living room, by the couch. I could have gone with nice straight, squared legs, but I decided it was time to try shaping wood to a more interesting design. I bought 6" wide wood and hand drew a template of the curves, with the grain going diagonal, along the length of the curve. I cut out all 4 legs on the scroll saw, sandwiched them together with clamps, and evened out the curves with the sander. Each pair of legs is lap jointed together, which had to be cut by hand with the router.
